I occasionally see a review/complaint using those words about the GM (or TM), and I've never been able to figure out why. I know, "to each their own" etc, "one man's tone bliss is another man's hell" etc... but still, my experience with the TM/GM series of amps has been nowhere near flubby/farty... in fact I find the tone to be fairly tight. BUT.... I tried something different the other day and suddenly was met with flub! I normally keep the amp on the 1-5w mode at home (no stage use yet)... Out of curiosity I switched it to 36w and it was Flub City! My theory is that I didn't crank the amp up enough to fully make use of that full 36w power section, thus the flubby tone. I am confident that if I were onstage and pushed the amp a little harder in 36w mode, it would be fine. Does that seem correct? Anyone have a similar experience?
I would like to add that I only have 1 item on my GM wishlist, and that is to have the ability to have the power-soak settings as a global control. I just don't envision myself using different power-soak settings on different presets. Instead, I would like to be able to switch the power-soak globally, so that I can simply put the whole amp into 1-5w at home, 18w at a small gig, 36w at a large gig, etc, without having to have various banks of presets for each power setting (that's a b!tch to manage, even with the app!).
