Can anyone offer info on TM212 venting?

Wow, first post ever in this forum too. I'm doubly humbled!

As I've just posted in the TM112 forum, is there anyone out there with a TM212 who can give me a description of its venting? I', not sure if it would be a properly designed reflex port matched to the cabinet volume and driver resonance, or it could just be a plain old hole in the box. H&K use Celestion Vintage 30s but this driver is not best suited to port loading usually performing best in a plain cab. So is H&K's "vent" just an untuned opening to the outside air, or is it a properly loaded reflex port to boost and extend the bass response? And can you estimate the approximate dimensions of the hole/port?

As I said, I've posted this query regarding the TM112 in its forum too in the hope of catching a few more users.

I personally don't care for front facing ports in guitar cabinets. For years I have been using open backed cabinets and prefer their sound over front ports. Maybe it's the delayed response of getting the bass at a later time, but for me ears I like how the speakers open up and breath better. Many years ago I cut a 1.5 foot square hole in my 4x12 cabinets and have not looked back.

I had actually considered getting a TM212 and covering the front port and opening up the back! Too each his own. YMMV.

Why does that not surprise me Normula? Could you give an idea of dimensions? Is it round or square? There is no requirement for a port to be cylindrical. Are you sure there is not even a short tube leading back into the cabinet?

Like you I also like the sound of some open back cabs Hwy. I loved the sound of my own cheap cabinets when they were open backed, but they did lack a bit of low down grunt. Closing them off gave them a little of that without losing anything higher up, (including subtlety). I'm just looking for an easy way to get even more low down energy, (for free helps), and a port may be of use. It's a bit disappointing to find that H&K may have really just designed another square cabinet with a couple of holes in it. Is that their ideas of "venting" rather than "porting"?

Hey, thanks for that.  Well I'm damned!  That's pretty 'blaahhh' I have to say.  I expected something a little more - well - engineered.  Mind you that is assuming there isn't something clever going on re loading or frequency adjusting here that I don't understand.  But it sure isn't a well designed reflex enclosure is it?  Why didn't they just leave the enclosure closed?  Could it be they were trying to knock off a bit of the bottom end or something?  That's a puzzler!
