    Hi,
I just got my GM 36, very awesome but complicated! sometimes I don't want to hook all that midi gear up (footpedal and ipad), I just want to plug in a guitar and dial in a tone. Is there a way to do that without getting lost behind some preset? To get full control of the front panel with all of the dynamics that this amp has to offer without using the external midi stuff? Any advice is appreciated!
    Thanks!

Absolutely, but you won`t be able to switch channels (hands free, that is) without some kind of footswitch. It`s really, really not a big deal. You don`t even have to use the H&K controller. And you don`t need the app at all, it just makes making broad changes easier. The GM36 is an incredibly versatile device, but in the end it`s just as easy as anything else and the midi learning curve is very fast. A simple 4 button midi controller and this amp will act just like any old school style with a footswitch, plus so much more if you need it to.

    Thanks for that VoodooJeff!

I do have the footpedal and an ipad, and have it all working... just sometimes I like to forget about all that and just go for front panel. It is a versatile amp and I'm really enjoying learning about it.

He speak the truth Pdox!  I actually bought the H&K FSM-432 midi controller when I got the amp, (and I'm tight as anything when it comes to paying out for in house ancillaries).  It's phantom powered from the amp which is convenient.  Like you it took me a while to bite the bullet and use it, I was always stuck back in the days of setting things up manually and tweaking even in the middle of a number.  As soon as I decided that our set list would be better served with preset voices I took the plunge and immediately fell in love.

It's so easy to set up a voice at home, call it up and play it in rehearsal and tweak it, then just hit Store and the original selection button on the pedal and you've trimmed it to suit in real life play.  You can even do it at gigs where you are at the real sharp end.  And you can have a block of voices set up for different power soak settings so you have the same voices for bedroom, rehearsal and live.  I do this by duplicating in blocks 1-8, 9-16,17-24 and 25-32.  That way I have 32 voices duplicated for 1W, 5W, 18W, and 36W.  It would take you one rehearsal to see how massively it opens up your playing life.

As you already have a decent midi pedal then I would use it but I can confirm the FSM-432 is a good sturdy model.  There will be more knowledgeable guys here than me for that and I'm sure they will chime in with good recommendations.  I also have mine set up to include a Swell pedal and a Boost footswitch on my board to control the amp.  These plug directly into the FSM-432 and can be allocated to whichever channel you need for the function you want to control.  A lot of midi pedal units offer this now and it's worth using.
