Can I use my Samsung Galaxy 4 Tablet to controll my Grandmeister 36?

Post by jpt145 on Thu Apr 07, 2016 2:47 am

I have seen it mentioned on the internet.... but I have yet to find the software to install on my Samsung Galaxy 4 Tablet (Android) for the interface to control effects on my Grandmeister 36....

Any guidance, links... etc... would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

I use a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 ( Android ) to control my GM36. Using the App from "barre"
    ( a man from Hungary )
you can find it on Google Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/search?q=grandmeister%2036
A short Manual you can find here. http://www.barre.hu/gm36
    I use a USB--Midi cable ( Standard ) it works very fine.

    Hope it will help you

    USB to Midi Adapter....

Post by jpt145 on Thu Apr 07, 2016 5:00 pm

ahhh....  Yes, I tried downloading the software to my Tabletand it told me, "cannot find compatible device".  This must be because I do not have a USB Midi Adapter cable installed between the Tablet and Grandmeister.

    Right?

    Thanks for your reply

Yes, that's right. you have to connect your tablet and your GM36 via USB-MIDI cable.

I'm not sure about the Android side of things, I never got my own little Chimp tablet (don't laugh) to work but, be warned, I bought that exact model of midi adapter to do exactly the same thing as you with the Windows app and it doesn't work. All of those cheap Chinese versions you find everywhere on eBay are absolutely fine for some standard things but not for the GM36 Windows app. The Win app uses Sysex Midi messages which results in large blocks of data to transfer. Those devices don't have a large enough buffer to cope with that and they fail.

Things may be different for the Android side, I'm sure other members who know more can advise on whether I'm right or wrong here. I would have a dig around for the list of compatible devices first and maybe save yourself time and a little money. This is the Win site http://ctrlr.org/hughes-kettner-grandmeister-36/
