Speaker Ohms and the Grandmeister Empty Speaker Ohms and the Grandmeister

Post by ShatteredVitreous Thu May 05, 2016 3:33 pm

    Evening all

Been a grandmeister owner for about a year now and have only ever used it to record via the Red Box.

Just joined a band so picked up a speaker cab, a marshall 8222 with gt12t100's in.

I don't want to damage my amp so just wondering if I could get some advise. The back of the cab says left 8ohms, right 8ohms and mono 4ohms. As you are all aware the grandmeister supports 8-16ohms out of a single mono output.

If I run the amp into the the left 8ohm connector am I running at 4ohms and will this damage the amp/cab?

Would really appreciate your help, and man what a damn good amp.

I think it must currently be wired in parallel when in mono - so 2X 8ohm = 4ohms.
You might need to rewire it so that it is in series which will be 2x 8ohms =16ohms which is safe gor the GM36.

See the diagrams below. Will pay to check what the current wiring is though.

Thank you Nick, this is what I thought from reading over a few posts but just wanted to be sure.

It's not a problem to do but I'll check the wiring first.......can't wait to crank the GM on Sunday at rehearsal.

    Thank you again fella

    Nick

Checking the wiring and it seems that the two inputs ( left and right) are connected individually to each speaker. The two inputs are then wired together.

    Is this then splitting the signal so 2 x 8ohms = 4ohmn?

In which case would you advise changing it to a series configuration?

Its probably like the pic below. With a switched jack on the right.

I would rewire it so it uses a single jack and is in series to produce 16Ohms.
