Looking for specific tones Empty Looking for specific tones

    Post by chiliphil1 Sun Aug 21, 2016 12:33 pm

Hey everyone. I've been looking though the forum for this and I DID see a couple of threads where people were attempting to share patches and from what I could see (maybe I missed it) but I didn't see where it was "complete"

With that, I was wondering if anyone could help me out with a couple of tones I have been going for and just cannot seem to nail down.

The first one I would like is a good SRV style blues tone, I've got a decent one for the crunch channel but it's still missing a little "something"

The other would be a good rockabilly tone. Again, I've got something using the boost on the clean channel but it's not quite right..

I don't have the connector to use an iPad with it, I don't even have an iPad, so I cannot access it that way. I have to just turn the knobs by hand.. So, any help is appreciated, thank you.

    Hi,
I have my Grandmeister since last week and I am very excited! I´m also interested how to get some trademark-sounds á la SRV, Hendrix, Van Halen, The Police, Luke, Nile Rodgers, David Gilmour,... (just to name a few).
    Any suggestions for some settings?

    Best regards,
    Theo

I'm sure there will be guys who will respond to this but do remember that a lot of the guitarists on this site use the GM36 because it's able to produce their own tones rather than to copy others.  It's one thing playing them "tribute" style where you want to sound just like the original player, but it's more usual for people to play tracks as a simple "cover", leaving the tone as themselves and giving a more personal version of the song.

How about posting a couple of patches of your own and then people can try them and see if they can be tweaked closer to the original that you want?  I would also mention what supporting equipment, guitar and speakers, you are using too as that will make a lot of difference.

I'm working on a section to the manager app which will graphically set up a new patch then spit it out into the GM36 file format.  This should be ready in a short while if all goes well.

I put a eh12ax7 in v1, and dime the gain for all clean channel patches. The EH is a little brighter than the JJ, bringing out the Strat jangle. Use an overdrive to get the front end of the GM36 to distort, keeping in mind the GM36 front end has a built in tube screamer. Hopefully your overdrive has a tone knob - that plus the presence and resonance knob on the clean channel should get you Gilmour, Summers, and some srv patches.
As you may know and have gleaned from this and other forums, your choice of speaker really tweaks your tone.
My fav Strat jangle and quack pickups are the DiMarzio True Velvets. I'm generally a Seymour fan, but the true velvet in the neck and middle are killer. Summers and Gilmour tended to use low output pickups and the true velvet gets you there.
