I really respect John Petrucci and his abilities. And, I have always been considering getting a Mark V but could never seem to be able to pull the trigger. Then this thing came out recently:

    "Captain Jack Sparrow" on guitar:

Thoughts? Ideas? Impressions after you look around at the other YT videos out there? Do we need to rename this forum? Do I just have GAS?

Let's make this a "fun thread" and keep it light. If you are reading this thread on this forum then you probable really like your current amp. But... The grass is always greener, yet still remains grass.

Aaaarcchh!  It burns! It burns us! It freezes! Nasty Mesa twisted it! Take it off us!

A Bogie?  (That's British for booger.)  What are you doing Hwy, have you lost your senses?  Well alright, it's pretty awesome isn't it.  And how unlikely is it that you would come across identical quadruplets who all played so tastefully?

What I find really refreshing is that he chose to show what he/it can do with a piece of stylish and melodic playing which almost all of us could give a pass at, nil tapping, nil shredding, nil max gain.  But to put it together as seamlessly as that?  Well I don't know about you guys but, as far as my own studio abilities go, there's always VoodooJeff. Embarassed

You're not seriously gettting twitchy about 'trading in' are you Shocked ? I think the phrase should be "dekettnerizing".

BB:  You crack me up dude!  What a great sense of humor!  Basketball

It has been a week since my second, and last surgery and I am starting to feel better.  I thought I would do a little browsing and I saw this JP video:

And this one of two guys playing a new amp: MB Mark V:35:

And now, after watching these videos...  I was driving to work this morning after hearing these videos and Santana came on the radio and bam!  There was that Mesa Boogie sound again in Santana's amp.  Damn, you just can't get away from that sound once you have heard it and memorized it.  Heavy, controllable, distinct, dark but light.  Everything a blaring Guitar/Amp combo should sound like at 103db!

Maybe it is just because I am feeling better but I don't know.  You remember the "Marco Sfogli" post I made earlier this year and the way his Mark V 1x12 combo sounded.  God that is a great sound!

And yes I agree, with a tool like that in Jeff's hands we would be on our knees saying "we are not worthy!"  I am sure you can hold your own BB with an axe in your hands.  We are just way to chicken to post a video up on YT of our playing skills!

Who said anything about trading in.  Trade up and have both!

There are sounds that the GM36 can do, with great flexibility like the JP-2C has, that the JP-2C cannot do.  Plus the GM36 has a cool blue face plate that the chicks love!  That little "booger" does get loud and proud too!  Nothing is leaving my house nor do I plan on getting rid of my GM36 in the future.  It's an all around great amp too.

It's just that the JP-2C sounds really close to the Peavey Roadmaster that I played through in 1976 and nothing has ever come close to the sound of that amp in my head.  Nothing.  Here is a picture of that amp.  200 watts of pure manhood:
