Alesis IODock and the iOS Grandmeister App Empty Alesis IODock and the iOS Grandmeister App

    Hi everyone,
New to the forum and I'm hoping someone may be able to help.

I've been using the Grandmeister app via an iRig MIDI inteface with no issues. I now use the iPad for other audio duties with an Alesis IO Dock.
I have not been able to get the app to connect with the Grandmeister via the IO Dock. Its a first generation IO Dock with the latest firmware.
The IO Dock MIDI works fine with other MIDI gear and if I go back to the iRig MIDI interface, the app works again. Just cant get the IO Dock to work with the Grandmeister - just says "connecting to amp" forever.

There is virtually no info on-line about this issue that I can find, so I was hoping someone on this forum may have an idea.

    Thanks in advance.

I think your problem is that the Alesis IO Dock 1 does not support Sysex transfer.  This is discussed a lot online, have a look at Question 5 and 6 here for example:  IO Dock Sysex

Sysex moves around larger blocks of data so it has a need for a bigger hardware buffer.  Some devices weren't created with that and I think it's unlikely that software updates will help.  This is why those really cheap MIDI interfaces from China don't work.  There is nothing wrong with them, they just don't support the size of data block we need.

(Edit: Should have said that the app relies on Sysex of course.)

    Thanks for that.
Yeah, from what little I could find, I did see the reference to SYSEX transfer issues but as I'm by no means a MIDI expert, I was hoping it may have been something dumb that I was missing.

    Thanks again.
