GM's Red Box.. Empty GM's Red Box..

Post by XploZiveToyz Mon Jun 09, 2014 4:37 pm

Quick question: I own some Marshall and Fender amps and am wondering if there is a way to use the GM's Red Box with those amps since I don't have attenuators for them?

If you have an instrument-level effects loop, I think you could run out of that into the GM. I don't think that would cause any issues with the other amps, but you might want to check with someone with more technical expertise.

I think you're most likely right, but I want to be absolutely certain before I try it. I'd hate to fry the thing after owning it for only a couple of days! LOL! I think you can pick H&K's regular Red Box for around ninety or so bucks.

Instrument level signal won't hurt the GM. My only hesitation is making sure the other amp is OK. The transformer needs to see a load from the speaker. I think this only matters when the power tubes are creating signal. If you use the loop out and do not return a signal back, I think you'd be fine.

You might want to run the signal out from the other amp into the loop in on the GM. That would bypass the preamp of the GM (and any coloration that adds).

Of course, caveat emptor! I take no responsibility for anything!
