Hi all and thanks for any suggestions

Having some issues with my MIDI configuration and want to delete and start over but when I follow the manual's instructions for performing a factory reset, the unit does not respond as suggested.

To reset the amp to the factory default settings, press and hold the MIDI LEARN and FX LOOP On buttons simultaneously for five seconds until the MIDI LEARN button lights up. After you release MIDI LEARN button, it will flash once to confirm that the reset has been executed properly.

When I push the MIDI Learn and FX Loop On buttons simultaneously, the MIDI Learn button flashes after about 2 seconds and then never lights up again after 5 or more. When I then release the MIDI Learn button, nothing happens and the unit is still responding to its previously learned MIDI messages.

Hoping someone can help with this as I really need to figure out if I'm doing something wrong or the unit needs to be serviced.

    Hi there,

I do not own a tubemeister, but my suggestion is:
the manual's instructions for performing a factory reset are not correct,
at least in the english section.
The manuals's instructions in german section are bit different.

That means imo, first of all, you should switch the amp off with the mains switch.
Then press and hold the MIDI LEARN and FX LOOP On buttons simultaneously.
While holding the two buttons pressed - switch the amp on with the mains switch.
Hold the two buttons for about five seconds until the MIDI LEARN button is flashing.
    Then release the buttons.
    Hope that helps.

    Hey snake!

Well, I was all set to post a gushing thank you reply as what you suggested makes perfect sense. Sadly, I tried it and got no different results.

Thanks for trying though. I'm sure I'm closer to getting it now than I was before. I have an e-mail in to H&K tech support and the recipient is out until Tuesday but hopefully something will come of that.

    Cheers

I'm afraid I can't offer any suggestions as to a solution Rob but, if it's any help, I can tell you the quickest way to get a response from H&K is on their Facebook page. It has been reported by a few people that they are notoriously bad at responding to emails. If you get onto Facebook and search for 'Hughes & Kettner' and look for the one with 'Product/Service' next to an angled pic of a H&K amp with its blue lights on. On the left is a section for visitors to enter their comments. If you post it on their you usually get a quick response.

If I come across anything relevant I'll make sure to post it on here.

Thanks for the suggestion bordonbert, the automated e-mail response I got suggested I'd hear back from them a couple days ago but nothing so far. I'll head off to facebook now and see if I have any better luck.

    Cheers!

Even though this topic is a year old I'd like to reply after experiencing the same problem and I solved it.. Not only do you need to press 2 buttons while turning the amp on.. The English versions says its the fx loop and the midi learn button but the German version actually says its the reverb and fx loop button while turning the amp on.

Hope this will help anyone experiencing the same problem in the future Smile

    You sir, are my hero.

    As simple as that.

Relieved and annoyed with H&K at the same time.

Seriously man, I can't thank you enough.

I hope someone revives some old thread of yours someday and helps you out as much as this helped me.

Here's a copy of my message to H&K support staff on FB...

Well... while I'm happy to report that the issue has now been solved, I'm sad to tell you the reason I had difficulty is due to an error in your English manual. The problem was pointed out to me, not by yourselves or a response to my email I sent over 14 months ago but by a random forum user on https://handkusers.forumotion.com. So much time and effort (not to mention money as I bought the FSM 432 MK III controller in the hopes of solving this and then ended up buying a different amp when I couldn't resolve the issue) could have been saved if you folks A - had better translation staff writing up your manuals and B - had bothered to read my problem closely enough to detect the error rather than redirecting me to spend time and money on unnecessary diagnostics and/or repairs.

Can't say I'm in the mood to do you any favours at this moment but I do love my amp and do wish to save other English speaking users from the headaches this gave me so I'll explain what the problem was now so you can correct your manual and, hopefully, find a way of letting all your customers know about the translation error in the manual for the TM36 Combo.

The English version says to hold the FX Loop button and the MIDI Learn buttons down together, just like I reported to you in my first message here that I was doing. BUT, the German version says to hold the FX Loop button and the REVERB buttons down together.

I did this and the problem is solved. Voila!

Please, PLEASE put some effort into spreading this information to save others. I love your amps and their sound but this has left a very bitter taste in my mouth regarding your customer service / information quality.

Well, stone me!  GREAT catch you two.

Checking through Version 1.0 of the multilingual manual for the TM36 shows you are absolutely right.  Every language section says Reverb and Fx Loop except the English section, and also strangely the Japanese.  That's one in the bank for anyone else coming around here with the same problem.

I've just checked and now the H&K site carries a Version 1.1 manual on its link with the English version of the Reset procedure updated!  We've no idea how long (or short) that has been there I'm afraid.  Definitely one up to you but I'll tell you something else which you may find funny.  The Japanese version at the end of the manual is still wrong.  They missed that!   Embarassed   Do you want to tell them or shall I?  Laughing

And I thought your email to H&K was superb Rob.  It was clear and complementary but straight talking as to their lack of serious consideration to your problem.  It will be interesting to see whether the online manual gets updated with the Japanese correction as quickly!

And of course, many thanks to Dennisveekaa for bothering to post this up even though he had solved it himself and it was an old thread. That's why I keep posting my ramblings, you never know when someone else will find them useful. (At least that's my excuse.)

Well even though they might have updated the manual.. I just googled one on my phone on friday and came on the version which still has the error.. Funny thing is i'm not a guitar player but i was with the guitar player of my band who just got his hands on a tubemeister 36.. We tried and tried for about 50 minutes before i figured it out in the manual. After that it was about 5 minutes of programming (1 minute for the tubemeister and 4 for a lexicon mx200 :-P)

Since there wasn't any solution on the net and nobody likes to be stuck in a situation like this i thought i had to make an account to share my info. Smile

Interesting update here.  I went ahead and posted news of the remaining Chinese manual error on the H&K Facebook page and they picked it up.  "Thanks, we'll pass it on" they said.  I've just checked and now the TM36 manual has been updated to Version 1.2 with the correction to the oriental section included.  And alongside that there is a new download, a combined manual for the Tubemeister 5/18/36 models only in Chinese!  It's numbered Version 1.2 as well, presumably to keep the two in step.  Maybe I just missed that in passing but it looks a completely new version to me.

So, while it may be a moot point, anyone experiencing this problem with the factory reset who comes across this should make sure to only use:

    TUBEMEISTER OWNER'S MANUAL VERSION 1.2

...as currently posted on the H&K website.
