    Fail safe in TM18.

Post by KazakUralsky on Sat Feb 03, 2018 10:41 pm

    Hi all.
I learned today, that TM5 has a fail safe, that if you turn the amp on without a speaker connected it automatically in the powersoak mode.
And I wonder if TM18 has this mode?

I could be wrong but as far as I know it is a standard feature of all the TM and GM amps KazakUralsky. Don't think it is mentioned in the manual, at least I can't remember it there, but it does this on both my TM36 and GM36. (Yes, of course I've done the silly thing too).

We had a couple of questions a long while back based on this. People had turned on their amp with no speaker connected then realised and quickly shut them off. When they plugged their speakers in and switched on again the amp was dead. There was panic in the ranks, had they blown their output stages? It wasn't dead of course, the amp had just reverted to Silent Mode as you describe and it remembers that the next time it is switched on.

They're clever beasts these H&K amps. Laughing

    Thank you.
I just received the answer for my question from H&K account manager:

"Yes indeed your TM 18 Head has also an integrated Powersoak which mutes automatically if there isn’t a speaker or any cable connected."

So you are right about standard feature. Wink
