It won't hurt the amp KU as long as you either have the Power Soak set on Silent Mode or you just keep the speakers connected. All you are doing is cutting the signal to the power amp section which make it run silent and should cause it no problem. It probably won't be at the right level to drive your headphones to decent volume though and may be too high an impedance depending on which headphones you use.
For better tone I would suggest you might like to use the RedBox out which has the power amp distortion and cabinet simulator added to your signal. This will make it sound more real, lively and resonant. The preamp signal alone can sound very sterile and hifi.
You would need a headphone amp to raise this to headphone level from line level but that only needs to be very simple and could even be the headphone output of a different piece of gear like a mixer or an audio interface for computer. Is that possible?
