GM 40 Signal Flow Diagram? Empty GM 40 Signal Flow Diagram?

Post by HankNJ Mon Dec 18, 2017 4:10 pm

Hello and Greetings Very Happy ... I am new here. After drooling over it for months I finally bought a GM40 with footswitch, WMI, and the iPad app.

    OOOOOOHHHHH MMMMMAAAANNNN I LOVE IT!

Anyway, does anyone know where I can get a signal flow diagram? I'm a little confused about where the relative positions of Volume and Gain would be in the flow.

Thanks, love it! I used the Pod products (XT Live then HD500) for their versatility, but this thing just simply sounds better ... TUBES! Love to crank the master and use the power soak Smile

Anyway, I would appreciate a signal flow diagram or a "talk through", epsecially as it pertais to the Volume and Gain controls.

The GM40 schematic or service manual hasn't escaped into the public domain yet as far as I know. H&K are very protective of this info as you can imagine and we support their feelings on that here, no posting of that info direct is allowed. The best you can do is to search around on the web for the GM36 which was available at one time.  We believe that the two are pretty much the same in their basic setup with new voicings for each channel and probably tweaks in other areas.

There are some threads here where the basic GM36 topology is discussed though they are very dry and aren't always easy to follow for the non-technical.  If you're into schematics and circuitry then try: Spice simulations of GM36 stages

At long last, here is what I got from Hughes and Kettner...

Input -> Gain -> Preamp -> Volume -> (FX loop) -> Internal FX -> Master -> Power Amp -> Red Box -> Power Soak -> Speaker Cab

Thanks for confirming that, it's fundamentally the same as the GM36 then.  It does show that the GM40D is still a member of the family and pretty much the same basic configuration as the earlier GM36, and there is no real reason to change, it works and works well.  Though it will have extensive revoicing for its updated tonal settings which everyone insists are radically different.  Hopefully they have unravelled the tangled bag of string that is the GM36 tone shaping setup and made it simpler in approach!  Don't hold your breath on that though.
